  • The lack of local pediatric health care is a barrier to many children in Southeastern Madison County
  • There are no pediatricians in the New Hope, Owens Cross Roads, Big Cove or Hampton Cove area
  • Parents are struggling because of the lack of available office hours at the local walk-in clinic
  • 35% of the families in these areas have a yearly income of less than $24,999
  • 41% of children under the age of 5 in single mother families are below the poverty level
  • 47% of the children in the county schools receive Free/Reduced Breakfast-Lunch assistance
  • Studies have shown that good health is a critical cornerstone to academic and social success and is a precursor to learning
  • School attendance rates have dropped significantly since HEALS closed their New Hope location
